Mr Roberts drove one of the first electric trams in Birkenhead from 1901 - 1930 (approx.). His route took in Claughton Village where he was easily recognisable with his Dickensian appearance including bushy sideburns. He had a sister living in the area and often stopped to chat to his nieces.
