Hi

I have been researching the Byers family and am stuck with William Byers c1778 who married Janet Scott in Edinburgh 1800. William is listed as soldier with the 4th regiment with the scotch militia. Janet's father is listed as Adam Scott labourer p Jarrow. My issue is that another source has his parents as Richard Byers and Janet Curruthers (my direct link is with a possible brother James Byers, who I know is definitely the son of this couple) trouble is William Byers 1778 has died in 1829 so cant prove the link. My only clue is that none of William and Janet Scotts children have been named after the father Richard. There are Janet, Margaret, Adam, Walter, Robert and Peter all born Dalkeith Midlothian.

Can anyone help?? :-S
