We're still working on Jane E Bates line and the two witnesses Charles & Mary Filmer don't seem to be related to Caroline and Philip. Thanks for your interest x Anne Mehew |

Alviegal ... you're spot on with entry ....this is our Caroline Thompson working in a German Bakery in 1894 she married a German Baker. This is the only Census result we have for her on the 1881 she would have been only 7 or 8 yrs old Thanks for all your efforts to find our family |

I thought this one may have been Caroline? Doesn't help though. |

Think we may have hit a wall with this one because we cannot even locate Jane Thompson (Bates) and Caroline on any Census...of course Jane may have remarried and then it becomes impossible |

There are quite a lot of Charles Thompson's who died at sea...but would be difficult choosing one |

thanks Jax ,yes it was Jane who registered birth and I guess there were a lot of false entries on birth certs. We have quite a bit of info re Jane E Bates, we were just hoping there was some way of locating Charles Thompson cannot even find his death ... it could have happened anywhere so a bit of a needle in a haystack job |

Thanks Kucinta we have looked at this entry before but we have a confirmed date of birth for Jane Thompson (Bates) of 1849 which would have made her 32 on 1881 census |

If he was a seaman there is a good chance he was at sea when the census was taken |

In 1873 Charles Thompson occupation Seaman is named as the father of Caroline Margaret Amelia Thompson on her birth cert. Mother's name is Jane Thompson formerly Bates living at 5 Harris Court ,St George in the East. Then in 1894 on Caroline's marriage cert her father is again named as Charles Thompson deceased Quartermaster. Have searched 1881 Census but cannot find him ... any help, ideas or advice as to where to look please Thanks Anne Mehew |
