If you look at the farm on google street view It doesn't appear to be that old, Possibly built in the early to mid 1800s.

Wondering whom the Ober Walk was named after as we live in the States and our friend is a Steve Ober whose ancestors were from Abbotsbury, Dorset in the 1500s.

found one in Devon, and as Roy says, there are lots in Hampshire

What makes you think the name Ober is the family the farm was named after?

The surname Orber is very rare in England and doesn't even appear on the GRO BMD's index untill the 1850's and then not in the Hampshire Area appart from 1 entry for a marriage and on close inspection that is a mistranscription of the name "Over"

Most Ober names appear in the Kent and london area

A search from the start of civil registration in sep quarter 1837 up until 1960 only returned 11 people born to that surname

looking at the census for Dorset, there are no Ober's to be seen, there are however variants of the name, i,.e. Obera, Obder, Obre, Ohbern

Is there something that you can give us in between please

I am helping a friend )Steve Ober, find his relatives in England. We have it to George Ober c. 1559 in Abbotsbury, Dorset. We also have that George's sons, and grandchildren also born in Abbotsbury.
In the Ancient Maps of Hampshire, they show an OBER House, just west of Brockenhurst Center. That would be at least in the 1800s. Also in the right-up for Rhinefield Lodge, Rhinefield Road, Brockenhurst it relates that the Mansion (which is now the Lodge Hotel), was built by Edward Lionel Munro and his wife Zoe Walker and called the Walker-Munro house. When Edward died, she had him buried at the Ober Farm, that was 1920, and later when she died (1934) she was buried with him.
I am trying to find out the names of the OBER family whom the Farm was named after. Also in Brockenhurst, there is the Ober Corners; Ober Waters; Ober House and Ober Moor/Heath.
Any help one can give me would be appreciated, or the Hampshire Historian who can give answers. I am, of course, hopeing to link that Ober family with George Ober of Abbotsbury. The name may have been modified since the 1800s to OVER.
