I agree mary... I was looking at it and was nearly tempted to order a birt cert just to make sure....no wonder it looks like Edith never divorced him . Maybe kept hoping he would come back to her...

A dock labourer running two homes and about 15 children in those days,no benefits.
It must have been a struggle,the women must have been well taken in.

Did Edith and James have more children?

John W M Caldwell 1917 Hull married Eveline Winn in Hull 1940
Elsie M M 1919 Hull
James A 1923 Hull
Olive M 1924 all above mums maiden name Norton!!

ok its quiet on the boards tonight so heres one for the bored people..
I have asked about James Caldwell before but cant find the link. He left his missus Edith Annie Caldwell and three children and he is on the 1911 census with the girlfriend and their new baby.. yea nice bloke.... They did go on to have many more children... anyway His first wife Edith I cant find her on the 1911 censes..
There was Edith born c 1884 . the children Margaret 1905, Kate Elizabeth 1907, and Edith Evelyn 1910...all the kids born in Durham..... I assume Edith remarried but she should be on the 1911 census... thanks team...
