Rosemary Report 9 Feb 2014 09:23

I am looking for details of an Edmund Woodward who married Elizabeth Johnson on 20th February 1846 in Daventry. I believe they had two children, Emma born 10 August 1846 and Jane born 24 February 1849. Jane died on the 7th July 1846 and Mum (Elizabeth) died 15 June 1849 aged 23. I have Certificates of all these dates.

In the 1851 census Emma is living with her Uncle Henry (Woodward) and Aunty Susannah, also Uncle Charles. Both Uncles were born in Oxfordshire.

I cannot find details of when/where Edmund was born or died or if they had any further children.

It would be great if someone is able to help me with this.

Can you check your dates please Rose?

You say :

Jane born 24 February 1849. Jane died on the 7th July 1846

I am a little confused here.

IF his father was named on cert as Thomas.........possible baptism on the IGI.......plus possible siblings

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 9 Feb 2014 09:46

Obviously just a slip of the finger with the death date..............

Deaths Sep 1849 (>99%)
Woodward Jane Daventry 15 149

...............but it does illustrate the importance of reading a post before clicking 'submit'

Thanks everyone

Edmund's father was Thomas Woodward and profession looks like Brewer. Full age on Marriage Certificate!! His residence at the time of marriage is Daventry.

Yes, I did have the date of Jane's death wrong, sorry, should be 7 July 1849.

That looks very likely in the 1851 census.

Thanks
Rose

I am not convinced about that marriage as the children we have found seem to have been born between 1821 and 1829 - I just feel that the marriage in 1806 is a little too early??

There are a few trees on Ancestry whish agree with that marriage to Mary Busby but none of them have any source info to prove it correct. - indeed one of the trees has Thomas also marrying a Sarah Woodward in 1809 and producing chilrden with both wives at the same time ??

I beleve the trees are copied from each other and that they have mixed together two families, each with the father Thomas.

This is often the case with Ancestry trees I am afraid.

That still 'could' be the correct marriage though but we really need some proof !
