Reggie and MarieCeleste - I can only apologise. My comment was not supposed to cause any offence or to be patronising. As I said Reggie, the reason for asking was based on a very specific reason in that the details seemed to fairly obvious from the 'preview'. I apologise most sincerely, that you feel affronted.

Again, I stress, that often people do not reply to new comments when they are placed on old threads, or has been the case in my situation. So the comment was based on actual personal experience. With that, the comment was not aimed at anyone specifically.

On another note, I have never 'availed' anything. I pay a full subscription to both ancestry and genesreunited and have done for some time. Most of the research I ask to be carried out here is when I am having difficulty in finding what I am looking for, or seeking a second opinion and might I also state that I also reply fully to comments and with genuine gratitude, which I hope is always fully evident.

Again, my apologies for any offence caused, it certainly wasn't my intention.

I DO NOT jump to conclusions!!!!!!!!!!

OF COURSE I looked at the image, and I am affronted that you should even consider that I had not done so

And I echo MC's remarks about your attitude appearing as condescending, and indeed, patronising............what right have you (the one asking for help) to suggest that the people on whom you rely for help cannot cope with quantities of data etc.

'Biting the hand that feeds' comes to mind..................

Perhaps it's time for us to be less forthcoming ...........you have for quite some time availed yourself of the generosity of GR members who PAY for the info you seek

Have a full sub to the newspaper archives but reluctant to check over previous threads to see what's already been found. Yes, there are chapters to a life but chapters form a book as a whole.

That's one of the reasons why you should keep to one thread - we're hardly intimidated by having info in one place, your comment actually comes across as condescending given that WE are the researchers and YOU are the person needing help.

Why don't you sign up with the British Newspaper Archives? They currently have an offer where you get 15 free credits (enough to view 3 articles) when you sign up and there is no further commitment required.

Hi Dea,

Thank you - it doesn't initially but will keep on with it.

And Reggie, my comment meant that I personally suspected the notice to be an obituary from the preview (from seeing similar other notices from this time frame). So, I was wanting to clarify if you had come to the same conclusion without actually seeing the image itself.

What - precisely - do you mean by.......................

Did you look up the article itself however?

Given that this lady was 'of advanced years' and that she died in Alston, then I would suggest that this is the lady concerned??

Reggie your memory astounds me. Did you look up the article itself however?

With this, an individual's life holds many chapters, that may be best to at times keep separate when not directly related ... hence, the new topic.

Also, at times, it seems people may be intimidated by the large number of responces on a thread, or merely not wish to wade through them which is something I find often, when 'new avenues' are not looked at on old threads..

Nothing to do with shares.. the transcription is erroneous

it's a DEATH notice for the woman

Peter

The site guidelines clearly state ONE post per topic

You already have at least two threads about this woman

Hi everyone - wondering if someone could please look up this article for me for the mention of a Mary Hardy:

I ask, as this relates to this thread - the 1851 shows my ancestor Mary Hardy/Booth was born in Alston c. 1791, so this could be interesting.

The link for the other thread is here: http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1336536

Thank you,
