Selina Sarah Tayler, (maiden name Peel, b.1881 Chorlton ) and her husband Bernard were missionaries in China; they were the parents of Gladys Yang (b. c.1919, Peking) who, along with her husband, was a translator of Chinese literature. Selina died in 1970 on the Isle of Wight; one of her sisters, Annie Isabella Peel, who was my husband's paternal Grandmother, had an ironmonger's shop in Stretford. I'm given to understand that there was a family connection to Robert Peel but, so far, I've drawn a blank...
Please can anyone help?
Thank you

Presume you mean the politician Robert Peel?
Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850)
Where was Robert Peel born?
Have you looked for info about his descendants..........if any?

Don't be too disappointed if you can't find a link.......but if someone has suggested a link, perhaps he/she can furnish some ideas about where the link is/was
Try googling..............I just did, and
Robert Peel was born in Bury, Lancashire, on 5th February, 1788. His father, Sir Robert Peel (1750-1830), was a wealthy cotton manufacturer and member of parliament for Tamworth. Robert was trained as a child to become a future politician. Every Sunday evening he had to repeat the two church sermons that he had heard that day.
Reams of info online about the man...................

Thank you Reggie, I'm relatively (sorry, no pun intended!) new to this. The Peel family of Stretford Rd. are the correct ones but, I haven't been able to get back any further. I haven't been able to find Edward in any earlier census, but maybe I'll get some other replies. If you ever come across anything that might be useful, I would be very grateful to hear about it. Once again, thank you.

Susan - do you have any of the children's birth certificates to confirm their mother's maiden name?
Once you have that you can then find the parents marriage to order that certificate to get father's names to work back from.
England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915
Name: Selina Sarah Peel Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1881 Registration District: Chorlton Inferred County: Lancashire Volume: 8c Page: 853
