I am trying to help a friend find information about donald macpherson. She is doing research in the highlands and she would like donald to be part of her writing. He was born in Laggan i, HIghlands , 1780's although I haven't been able to find evidence of this. His death was 2nd March 1863 in London. Again I haven't been able to find evidence of this. He lived at 54 upper ebury street , London for some time. Any records or a copy of his will would be great. Thank you

Sorry, just putting for others:
Laggan is a village in Badenoch, in the Highland region of Scotland. It is beside the River Spey, about 10 km west of Newtonmore.

This one may be interesting to follow.
ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION The Rose and the Oak. A Fable. Melodies from the Gaelic, and Original Poems, with Notes on the Superstitions of the Highlanders, &c. By Donald Macpherson. Donald Macpherson
The poem was likely written some years before it was published in 1824. Donald Macpherson was one of a number of self-educated Scottish poets who began life tending sheep.

Not suprised to see an Ossian there. I wonder if they were related to James Macpherson who translated the Ossian poems.

??? These are excerpts from
http://www.scan.org.uk/catalogue/
Person Code NA16751 Family Name Sobieski Stuart Dates [1790]-1925 Epithet family
Stuart, John Sobieski Stolberg [1795]-1872, and Stuart, Charles Edward [1799]-1880, were two brothers who claimed descent from Prince Charles Edward Stuart, the young chevalier, and to be heirs to the crown of Great Britain and Ireland. Their birthplace is unknown. The dates, too, of their births are uncertain.
About 1811 the reputed secret of their descent from the Stuarts was, according to their own story, revealed to them and they entered the service of the 'eagle monarch' Napoleon, and fought in 1813 at Dresden and at Leipzig. Both brothers claim to have fought once again at Waterloo for Napoleon, attired in 'dolmans green, pelisse of crimson dye'. Afterwards, they went to London, learned Gaelic there from Donald Macpherson, compiler of 'Melodies from the Gaelic,' and in 1817 or 1818 came by sea to Edinburgh.
