Hi,

Please could I ask for some help in locating my grandfather who I can't find in the 1940 census -

Raymond A HILTON born Ohio 1917

He's probably not married by then but I haven't found a marriage.

His wife at some point was Jewel E KING born about 1923 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

I have a 1942 newspaper cutting that says he was at Camp Blanding, Florida. He'd just been to visit his wife at 1006 Pitkin Ave, Akron, Summit, Ohio. He'd been in the army for 4 Months and had previously worked in Chicago.

I have found his parents & siblings at Hudson Avenue, Akron, Summit, Ohio but no sign of Raymond or Jewel anywhere......

His address was the same in 1933 and 1941 so you'd expect he'd be there in 1940. However, his occupation was truck driver so perhaps he was on the road and eluded the census.

Yes, that looks like him in the City Directories, his parents address was 762 Hudson Ave, so not far from 674 !!

That looks like her in 1930.

I haven't looked into her too much apart from trying in the 1940 census to see if she was with Ray as Jewel is no relation to me - my dad was a war baby - nudge nudge wink wink :o)

Thank you MarieCeleste, I'd found that before and found the write up with it brilliant for locating newer members of the family. Sadly they don't really want to know about this whole new English I/2 family so haven't been able to get info from them :o( never mind............

I have now found Jewell in the 1940 census, she's with her parents so Ray's not there either....
