How would I find the parents of John Thomas born in c1791 in Herefordshire. He married Sarah Jenkins in 1827. Her father was John Jenkins born 1768.
Where do you look before the census records? If possible I would like to go further back.

Thank you all for the information. Sorry I couldn't reply straight away
.
Where can I look to try to research for myself before asking for help - I do look on free bmd and believe me I am VERY grateful for all of you who do the lookups but if I could try first then I wouldn't feel like I was taking the easy route by asking you lovely people.

With the names of Thomas and Baker in the family - searching is obviously difficult at times so thank you for all the help the community has given me in the past, present ........ and the future as I know I will need more look ups.

:-D :-D

As you probably know, if you are looking for a BMD before Sep 1837 you have to revert to Parish Records. Not all have been transcribed and up loaded onto the internet, and not all people went through the various ceremonies.

Reggie has given you one free link
https://familysearch.org/

Another is http://www.freereg.org.uk/ which is also part of the FreeBMD family.

Make an internet search for 'parish records' and the area of interest as well as 'on-line parish clerks' and the county name.
