Don't forget that until 1875, there were no penalties for not registering births...................so your best bet is to look for baptisms

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 15 Jan 2014 17:23

As the son doesn't seem to be listed in 1851, you may need to look for a death

Ditto for Ann after 1851........................although how did you work back if you don't have later info?

I wonder if this is the 5 week old son from the 1841? On the original it looks as though initials have been put for his name in lower case and look much like a w and a ? h or k

Births Jun 1841 (>99%)
PARTRIDGE William Henry Axminster 10 3

1841 census taken 6/6 so birth not registered before that date........otherwise the child would have been named

Deaths Sep 1842 (>99%)
PARTRIDGE William Henry Axminster 10 2

No age on index, of course.................you'd have to get copies of one - or both - certs to confirm

stuart i found a death for jacob 1865 broadwinsor is this him

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 15 Jan 2014 23:17

Only the cert will give you that info, as ages were not on the index as early as 1865

And you can't be sure the death was in Broadwinsor..........

Deaths Jun 1865 (>99%)
Partridge Jacob Beaminster 5a 275

Having said that - it seems very likely...............I'm guessing you've checked 1871 census, and he isn't on it...........
