There are several Trees on Ancestry..stolen, copied or whatever from each other..each perpetuating each others mistakes............but there is one with parents for Abraham............James 1780 and Elizabeth 1775...........but since there is no substantiation..and no records that I can find of such a couple.....I suggest that it is another rubbish entry.....
EDIT..snap!!

Helen Report 11 Jan 2014 16:10

Yes, he married 1.8.1841 in Somerset Perry Ohio to Mary Magdalena Kuhns.

There a a lot of people on Ancestry who have his second family, but very few who link to his family with Charlotte (most of whom have copied my photos & tree anyway!).

One person has Abraham having parents 'James' 1780-1845 and 'Elizabeth' 1775-, but I can't find either of these two anywhere, so have not confirmed this myself

Have you got a marriage for him in America?

Hello all,

I traced the Leviits as a whole to see if there was a pattern to where they came from / moved to, in the hope that Abraham (even if not baptised etc), could possibly have come from this family.

Robert & Elizabeth, who had William 1803, were m Wakefield
His brother John (m Hannah Johnson), moved to Featherstone.

All of the Levitts from Pontefract/Wakefield that I have found are related to each other, so I figured Abraham must be part of this Levitt group somehow!

Abraham & Charlotte were at Featherstone & Darton for most of their childrens baptisms, and he is buried in a 'Lutheran' cemetery in Somerset, Perry, Ohio, with one of hs Ohio born sons, whereas ther rest of his Ohio family are in a catholic graveyard

I've got the Pontefract baptisms from their FHS but he wasnt in there, asd well as the Wakefield ones, though there are/were a lot of churches in Wakefield.

HIs daughter Julia (my ggg grandmother) had her surname incorrectly spelled as 'Levick' on her marriage certificate.

I guess Abraham just didn't get baptised, or records lost, as you say, or perhaps had another first name, and chose to use a second name?

How have you built up a tree of Levitt's before his birth if you do not know it?

Do you know if he was Jewish but converted?

Is it definitely the same man in both places - I was going to say that one must admire his stamina to have at least 18 children, but as he deserted 8 of them I will retract that statement.

Hi Helen...I can't see why Abraham should not be in either the Pontefract baptisms..or perhaps the Darton baptisms.............but he isn't!!
I looked at Darton, becasue that is close to Pontefract, and is where some of his children with Charlotte were baptised......

You have to bear in mind that he may not have been baptised............but I have found a WILLIAM LEVITT baptised Pontefract 27.03.1803 son of Robert and Elizabeth...could he be a brother???..you say you have a "pre.Abraham tree"...........do you have a Robert born about 1780???........

I'm still looking..

Derek.

There is always the possibility that he wasn't baptised, or if he was either the records haven't been transcribed, they've been lost, damaged or destroyed or are otherwise 'unfit for production'.

Have you expanded your searches to outside of the established church, such as RC, non-conformists or Jewish?

If no one can find anything new, you could consider joining the Pontefract and District FHS and tap into their resources

Hello,

I am searching for the parents of Abraham Levitt.(my gggg grandfather)

Abraham was born Dec 21st 1801, in Pontefract (at least, thats what it says on his gravestone!)
I can't find a record of his birth anywhere, and have looked at many parish records for Pontefract and Wakefield areas. I've looked under different spellings too.

He married Charlotte Lodge in 1820, in Wakefield All Saints.
Had 8 children with Charlotte and then he diappeared off to Perry, Ohio, before 1840, and married Mary Magdalena Kuhns, where he had another 10 children.

I've buit up a tree of Levitts pre Abrahams birth, but can't find the missing link!

Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Helen
