EDIT Sorry my geography for that part of the world is pretty poor. Is it this place or Bedford in Bedfordshire.
Bedford, a suburb of Leigh, Greater Manchester is one of three ancient townships, Bedford, Pennington and Westleigh, that merged in 1875 to form the town of Leigh. Bedford was historically in Lancashire.
or
Bedford is the county town of Bedfordshire, in the East of England.

Do you still think Peter was born in 1800? That would make him older than his dad who was born c 1806.

Possible, married in same church as Jethro:
Marriage: 28 Nov 1827 St Mary the Virgin, Leigh, Lancs. Peter Hampson - (X), of Leigh Parish Ann Woodward - (X), of Leigh Parish Witness: Samuel Whittle; William Taylor Married by Banns with Consent of Parties by: Jonathan Topping Vicar Register: Marriages 1825 - 1832, Page 103, Entry 307 Source: LDS Film 559188
Witnesses are not connected - they appear on a number of marriages and are probably connected to the church.

Ancestry is trying to link Peter Hampson to Ann Appleton, but I don't think this is correct as it is in the wrong area of Lancs. So personally I think you can discount this one for now.
Also now looked at the other marriage to Catherine, and that was in Wigan - quite a long way from Leigh.
However you have to make your own decisions.
