Hi All,
Can any one find a connection between a John Noble bpt c. 1781 Romsey p. John and Mary Noble and a John Noble and Mary Moore m. 10th Nov 1775 East Mellow Hampshire ? theres a 6 year gap and I wonder if the family gradualy moved from East Mellow to Romsey................we think John Noble bpt. 1781 moved to the Clanfield/Catherington area of Hampshire and became the landlord of the Bat and Ball.
Regards and Happy New Year,
Pam

There are two possible marriages for a John Noble to a Mary, the other one being in Portsea.

The Romsey Nobles had 6 children baptised between 1782 & 1790, Grace, John in 1783, George, Mark, Charles & Samuel.

Hope this helps.

Is that THE Bat and Ball of cricket fame?

If so, maybe there is a history somewhere of it's landlords.
Do you have a marriage for John and perhaps have other NOBLEs as witnesses.? These could be siblings or other relatives and maybe by searching for their origins, you could pinpoint John's.

Hi Gwen and Namelessome.
Thanks for your replies...............we have drawn a blank with marriage certs. We think the John Noble of Bat and Ball fame was married to Elizabeth Luff in 1805 at Havant Hampshire and the witinesses were her family. But our real dilemmer is to connect the John Noble of Romsey with the John Noble of the Bat and Ball. However, we will try the John Noble of Portsea as that may turn up some informatiom and it is nearer Catherington/Hambledon.
The reason we think it was John Noble from Romeys is because he repeated some of his brothers names when naming his children. As we know the families used to repeat names within the family as a mark of respect.........most of the time anyway.
I have looked though the Winchester Records Office list of archives to see if the Bat and Ball is mentioned.....no luck so far.
Best Wishes and thanks for you interest.
Pam :-)
