Can your uncle remember ever meeting Harry's (?) child from the previous marriage? If he can how old was your uncle and what age would he guesstimate the son would be?

Still can't understand why we can't find Harry in 1911, so did he leave the country? I found a marriage in Australia in 1921 to Florence Ethel Battams, she dies in 1928 in Queensland, unfortunately I haven't got anywhere to look for children from this marriage on my subs. This could be completely wrong, but your Grandfather certainly doesn't want to be found!!

You'll have to drink the wine for me, make sure you enjoy. Lol :-D :-D

EDIT>>>> found the birth and death of the Australian Harry Burt, another one ruled out!

Hi Dee :)

I have been looking at Harry's father George......either i have dates of the siblings wrong OR he lead a double life!!!

Yes, your right hun.....its nice to know the contact was still there

William Stone is my dads half brother Stella with previous hubby. I am convinced (or wishful thinking) that there has to be a story behind Harry :-0

I soooo owe you a bottle of wine!!! xx

Eileen was Harry's half sister, so at least you know he was still in touch with his family.

Can you give a rough guess as to birth dates of Eileen and Vincent, please?

(And do you mean that Eileen XXX married Vincent Hennessey?)

Thank-you

Have spoken to my uncle (dads half brother) he remembers Harry having another child from previous called Patrick (not sure if he was blood child or previouscas you mentioned) ....... My uncle is the only one who would know anything but his memories are not great :(

I know that Harry lived in Scholefield Road, Islington (as a child)
29 Bensham Manor Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey ( this address is on his wedding cert to my nan in 1945....and i remeber my dad talking about that address)
And 287, The Glade, Shirley, Croydon (he lived here with my nan and this address is on his death cert)

But i cannot find him listed at the last 2??

Uncle has just told me he remebers a family memeber of Harry's called Eileen Henasey who lived in Moffat Road, Thornton Heath and was married to Vincent??

These are not names im aware of :( xxx

Flip,

Think MC added the link to JL's other post on page 1. JL thinks that there may have been a son "Pat" to the first marriage, unfortunately there is no further info. :-)

Did your father ever mention any older siblings (or half siblings from Harry's first marriage)? It's just it may help track down his first marriage... It would be unusual for no children. But then again, if he married early his children may have been grown up by 1945 and flown the coup (so to speak)

Looks like Evelyn was a red herring??

Her probate record states she was a spinster,

Name: Evelyn Beatrix Burt
Probate Date: 9 Nov 1942
Death Date: 5 Apr 1942
Death Place: Surrey, England
Registry: Llandudno

Chin up, let's look at it another way, it's one less possible wife off the list. :-)

Thank you both.....its great to get the info but also so sad as i just cant track my grandfather Harry...now that i have lost dad i feel its my duty to find the info that dad never knew but looks like i will be hitting the brick wall rather soon :( xxx

Eveline was at same address in 1948 (alone) so maybe Phyllis was her daughter and too young to vote.

There's also info that conflicts with that 1941 death and the 1932 (sorry!)

It's just that there's this birth:

England & Wales, Birth Index, 1916-2005
Name: Phyllis E Burt
Mother's Maiden Surname: Watts <<<
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1933
Registration District: Hammersmith
Inferred County: London
Volume Number: 1a
Page Number: 288

and then later on several ERs

London, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1965
Name: Evelyn B Burt
Year: 1953
County or Borough: Harrow
Ward or Division/Constituency: Harrow East
Street Address: 5 Albany House
Reference Number: MR/PER/C/0897

Living with a Phyllis E Burt (unless they're sisters?)

I think the George found in 1911 is Harry's father with his new wife. I traced him with his son and I think the death would be correct, however I think that George and his wife Cecilia may have separated as she died later than George but by 1940 she isn't living with him or her son Sidney.

Your Grandfather is proving difficult, can't find him on the 1911 census, he was most likely to have been in WW1, sadly 70% of WW1 records were burnt in WW2 when they were bombed.

I think the next way forward is to get the electoral role checked for Bensham Manor Road in 1945 and see who is living there, with any luck you may find more answers?

Sometimes people didn't want to be found, sometimes wrong information was added to census, and sadly sometimes people just didn't know who they were.

I find it odd how George jnr and Isabel are with their grandmother Allen, how Albert is with his father and stepmother and yet Harry is nowhere to be seen.

Have to go out for a while, I'll keep fighting about when I come back. :-D :-D

My nan Stella Burt (maiden name Lally) was originally from Weardale, Co Durham. Her father was Thomas Lally born abt 1886 in Jarrow, Durham.

On Stella's birth cert fatners occupation says Steel Dresser (journeyman)

Cannot understand why Harry and father George are so difficult to find info on??

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 30 Dec 2013 09:52

Unfortunately I can't see anything relating to Bensham Manor Road.

At least, like you say, the medals are sorted now, maybe something for you to look into though at a later date?

Was your Nan, Stella's family from the Croydon area? What was her fathers occupation? Just wondering if there could be work links there.

GS-47992 PTE. P.CARD. R.FUS

Hmmm maybe they were not any of my relations??
After my mother died my dad was in a relationship with a woman called Jayne Card. These must have been hers :(

Ok..... That 1 mystery solved

Hi, on the medals are there names and numbers on the outer edge? The number would be a service number and we may, if lucky, pick him up on the WW1 service or pension records. Sometimes these gave wife and children's names.

I'll keep looking for you. :-D
