I am now in receipt of Caroline Amelia Curry's death Certificate which states she died at 13 Chipstead Street in the presence of her husband Samuel Curry which on the Certificate is spelt "Corry" and states he is a hotel clerk.
Death 14th Jan 1916 Registered 17th Jan 1916
The spelling on Samuel's application into Morden College and his Death Certificate and also the clarification of the grave from the North Sheen Cemetary all in my possession show the surname as "Curry"

Gosh, if he was your mother's father then he was 63yrs old when she was born. Caroline can't have been her mother as she died the year before so who was her mother and what makes her think that Samuel was her father?

Samuel Curry a widower entered Morden College in 1928 because of his reduced circumstances he may well have become a Hotel Clerk after he ran into difficulties from 1920 to 1923 I have a death Certificate that states he was a Master Linen Merchant aged 83 and All information I have gathered about him came directly from my mother - born 1917 who believed him to be her father but not mentioned on her birth certificate - her mother never marrying
I have documentary evidence transcribed from his own application into Morden College of his circumstances, giving in-depth information of his trading in London over 36 years. The document contained no evidence of children but mentions that he had two sisters. I shall endeavour to obtain a marriage Certificate and also a copy of Caroline Curry's Death Certificate.
This is one big mystery

If his wife was Caroline Amelia, then I would suggest that my 1906 marriage and 1911 census are the correct person.
Could be that the two Samuels are differant people, or maybe Samuel was married to Ellen but left her for Caroline and went on to marry her bigamously, lying slightly about his age to make himself a little younger.
I wouldn't want you to spend money on just my say, but you may want to invest in a couple of certificates to try and solve the mystery. As you thilk his wife was Caroline Amelia, the I would start with the death certificate of Caroline Amelia Curry to see if death was registered by her husband, and then the 1906 marriage certificate to see if they give any more clues.

The marriage and 1911 Census posted by Catherine seems to be the correct one despite the fact Samuel is a Hotel Clerk....Possible Samuel had lost his business and eventually ended up living at Morden College .... Morden College is a long-standing charity which has been providing residential care in Blackheath, It was founded by philanthropist Sir John Morden in 1695 as a home for 'Poor Merchants"...

Could you tell us how you got to your Samuel Curry?
You can see that from what we have found we are slightly perplexed as we cannot see Samuel as a linen merchant together with Caroline but with Ellen, and Samuel with Caroline as a clerk.
Do you know of any children of his, and have you got or applied for the death certificates of those 2 in the grave?
Thank-you
