Hi I am still trying to find my grandparents George Shearer Kennedy. I have discovered a person of this name who lived at 262, Gorgie Road Edinburgh(showing 1901 Scotland census)He was shown as a Mason. I discovered in the census that a George Kennedy was living directly across the road from my mother's address as a boarder The head of this family is Donald Innes and I have discovered that his sister Elsie J is George Kennedy's mother. Also living at this address is one of his son's named Donald who is a biscuit packer aged 16. My mother Marguerite Doris Kennedy was born on the 15/05/03 at 175 Gorgie Road Edinburgh.
In the 1911 census my mother who was then 7 is shown as being adopted into a family headed by a lady called Christina Pennycook. I know this to be correct as 2 of her daughters Janet and Mary were my aunts .Christina Pennycook had a niece
called Jemima Mitchinson aged 17 also a biscuit packer could there be a connection here? On my mother's birth certificate her mother is shown as Amy Hutchinson, she has signed her name as Amy Kennedy. The registrar's writing is unclear, could this be Mitchinson? Thank you very much. Doris

Subject; George Kennedy and Amy Hutchinson or Mitchinson they were my grandparents. How can I find out if a Mrs. Rebecca Amos who was on the 1901 census address 220 Northumberland Park Tottenham London still resided there in 1903.

My mother's birth certificate showed on the 15/05/1903 that her father resided at this address and also he was a music hall artist. I have been trying for years trying to get some answers.

Thank you so much.

I am not getting very far with trying to track down George Kennedy and Amy Hutchinson. I noticed in the british newspaper archive Music Hall Artists Geo.Kennedy 3,617 and Geo.R. Kennedy 6,586 is their an easier way to go about this. I am looking around about 1902-1904. I don't know if they are related to their next door neighbours. ( 222) The mother and daughters are irish.Thank you.

How do you go about finding out who rented or bought the house after Mrs. Rebecca Amos?.

(Amy Hutchinson)

I haven't got anywhere with her either. I keep thinking where does Janet Pennycook fit in. (The lady who adopted my mother)
. Going into her family tree, her sister Margaret married a Jacob Mitchinson. I wonder if the Registrar mixed up (M) in Mitchinson for Hutchinson. I think she must have done this for a relative!!

MarieCeleste, it was probably given on the birth certificate as the father or mother's usual residence. That was normal on a Scottish birth certificate.

Hello Doris, if your mum was born at 175 Gorgie Road, Edinburgh, in what context was 220 Northumberland Park, Tottenham mentioned?

Are you referring to the Scottish 1911 census?

Thank you so much for trying to help me. I have been trying for years to trace my mother's family. She was born Marguerite Doris Kennedy 15/5/1903 at 175 Gorgie Road Edinburgh. On her birth certificate her father was shown as George Kennedy( Music Hall Artist) and her mother Amy Hutchinson or Amy Mitchinson the certificate is unclear. The address I gave you earlier was on the birth certificate. When you look at 1911 census my mother's name is Margaret and showing she is adopted. My mother was known as Marguerite Doris Kennedy Pennycook, she died on the 31/03/1961. She was informed, her parents may have moved to Australia. She had to be left behind as she was very ill. This is where Mrs. Pennycook came in.Thank you once more,
Doris
