Trying to find any connections to James Allen, my 4gUncle, brought up by his uncle in Derry following the death of his parents. His brother, my 3gGrandfather, John ran away to sea aged 9. Both emigrated to NZ, John in 1842 from Kilmarnock where he had settled following12 years in the Navy.John settled in the Taieri plan, Otago, and his surname changed to Allan, tradition has it, as a gesture to his wife whose name was Agnes Allan. |
