Find Ancestors

I have been trying to find a birth record for Charles Gorman but cannot find any record which even closely matches what the family claim and I wondered if anyone else could find something close. I don't want to order a certificate without any possibility of it maybe being him.

Charles Gorman is given as 14 on the 1911 census and is living with his mother Agnes (1868) and older sister Eleanor (1892) in Northumberland which is where it says he was born. Agnes was born in Whitehaven and Eleanor was born in Millom both of which are in Cumberland/Cumbria. I have checked both counties but cannot find any record of Charles.

This birth is the same area as Eleanor:

but does not fit the 1911 census or the death and different place of birth claimed in 1911.

I have no idea when he died but that birth and death both look promising . I will order certificates to confirm.

There is a Charles Gorman the right age in 1901 in a children's home in Lancashire

edit - but the birth/death combination above look good.

... yes, it seems likely that this Chas died in 1903 in West Derby so he is for ruling out here :-)

There is a birth for Eleanor in Bootle (the Cumbrian which cover Millom,) in 1892 which has a mother's maiden name of Connelly; there is this marriage in the same district:

Perhaps he wasn't the natural son of the Gormans

Bootle as a registration district is in Cumberland................no connection whatever with Bootle, the town, which was Lancs, and is now Merseyside

Just to note ... the idea that he was not a natural son of the couple is exactly why I looked for any Charles Gorman in 1901 after finding he wasn't with the parents ... as was posted while I was finding it ...

... the one born in Birkenhead was the one and only one with a birth registered around the right time ... the fact that he was in Lancashire was of no consequence, I was merely looking for a child who might possibly be a nephew or something similar ... and he wsas the one and only ...

The 1903 death ruled him out so this was useful so that Tawny did not order a pointless certificate.
