On the 1901 census he is aged 52 born Southampton and she is 54 born Bently.
The ages are a bit iffy as he died 1922 age given as 75 implying born 1847, she died 1921, age given as 79 implying born 1842.
There is a James Thomas Viney born Jun qtr. 1850 in S Stoneham which looks to be a very good match.
There is a Sarah Harriet Wise born Jun qtr. 1841 in Stockbridge district which would match except that Bently is not listed as being in Stockbridge district.

Hello Brian, quite possible that they never troubled the vicar and didn't actually marry.

When/where was each born?

perhaps they simply didn't marry......or the woman had been married before, and therefore married in a name other then her maiden name

Where did you friend get the info about the woman's name?

I hope you haven't restricted your search on a geographical basis...............

I am helping a friend who cannot find a marriage for James Thomas Viney to Sarah Harriet Wise in the Southampton area, possibly South Stoneham district where their daughter Mary Mabel Viney was born in 1881 (2c 77 Jun qtr. 1881).

Any help appreciated, I've not managed to find anything yet.
