Thank you Inky
I had wondered about that baptism. Yes I should contact a Family History Centre to try and view the marriage record.

Thank you also to Reggie, you are quite right to question my assumptions about this marriage. You now have me looking for possible children in Buckinghamshire, of another Charles and Esther, which would prove there were 2 couples......

1827. The Marriage Book in use by most Churches at that time did not include details of parents. I presume you are thinking of the certificates that can be ordered from the GRO, which commenced 1837Q3 and show fathers and their trades?

Reggie asks if you are sure of the family.

What the Church Book does show is the parish/place where both bride and groom were living. A majority of marriages would show "of this parish" for both, but sometimes "of the parish of xxxxxxxxx" - for either or both of them.

I suggest that you visit/contact a Family History Centre to see if they have a copy of the film. If not they can order it in for a small charge. If the image shows that Charles was "otp Bromley", or other nearby Kentish parish, then you likely have the correct data. But if he was "otp Upton", then you might need to re-think.

I used to go to the London Kensington Centre, but it might now also be possible to order/pay for a print to be sent to you.

The informants in both cases were "present at the death". No family relationship given.
Cannot be 100% sure of the marriage. But see no other marriage of Charles and Esther at that time.

The parents are my primary interest, yes. But any extra information about their siblings or their children would be good.
Have looked familysearch, freeREG, FreeBMD, ancestry (at library only), google.
Hoping another pair of eyes might find more.
Thanks

You name the informants on the death certs for Esther and Charles........what does it say on the certs about their 'qualification'?

Are you 100% certain that the family in Kent is that of the couple who married in Bucks?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 10 Dec 2013 09:17

So you are looking ONLY for the parents of the couple you name..........is that correct?

Where have you looked?

Charles EDMUNDS/EDMONDS married Esther BEESLEY , 15 July 1827 Upton Cum Chalvey, Buckingham [family search]
There don't seem to be any parents mentioned at this marriage, so it may be difficult to prove their ancestry. But I would like to find more about this couple - their parents, siblings, grandparents if possible.
I have the following children of this family:-
Sarah EDMONDS - Christening: 06 Apr 1828 Bromley, Kent
William EDMONDS - Christening: 27 June 1830 Bromley, Kent
Elizabeth EDMONDS - Christening: 27 Jan 1833 Bromley, Kent
George EDMONDS - Christening: 11 Feb 1838 Bromley, Kent
Thomas EDMONDS - Christening: 14 June 1840 Bromley, Kent [all from England & Wales Christenings 1530-1906]

Then there are these deaths:-
Esther EDMONDS died 21 June 1840 Bromley, aged 35, w/o Charles Edmonds labourer, informant Sarah PEARCE of Bromley
Charles EDMONDS died 13 July 1846 Bromley, labourer aged 49 years, informant Jane (or June?) HILLS of Bromley
I do not yet see a connection between either of these informants and the Edmonds or Beesley families.

1841 census , Shooting Common, Bromley
Charles EDMONDS 40 1801 Kent
William EDMONDS 11 1830 Kent
Sarah EDMONDS 12 1829
Elizabeth EDMONDS 8 1833 Kent
George EDMONDS 3 1838 Kent

1851 census , Wickham Green, West Wickham
William CHANNING head 61 1790 Aggr. Labr. West Wickham
Elizabeth CHANNING wife 59 1792 Bromley, Kent
George CHANNING son 15 1836 West Wickham
William EDMONDS nephew 20 1831 Cordwainer(App) Bromley
George EDMONDS nephew 13 1838 Bromley

I have traced back to this family through William EDMONDS (1830) who married Maria FOLLETT in Kensington, London, 1857 ( William EDMONDS aged 27; father's name Charles Edmonds (labourer), father deceased, witnessed by Thomas Taylor & Elizabeth Taylor)
I believe the Elizabeth TAYLOR witness was Elizabeth nee EDMONDS (1833) who married Thomas TAYLOR earlier in 1857.

The Charles EDMONDS who married Esther BEESLEY could be the son of Charles EDMONDS and Sarah COOPER, christened Jan 1797 Bromley,
CHARLES EDMONDS - SARAH COOPER Marriage: 3 June 1792 Bromley, Kent [England Marriages, 1538–1973]
with the following christenings:-
Elizabeth EDMONDS 25 Nov 1792 Bromley, Kent, d/o Charles & Sarah
? married William CHANNING feb 1814 West Wickham, Kent, [EWMarriages 1538-1940]
Jane EDMONDS 8 Dec 1793 Bromley
John EDMONDS 22 march 1795 Bromley
Charles EDMONDS 8 Jan1797, Bromley
Jabesh EDMONDS 10 june 1798 Bromley [England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975]

BUT I have seen evidence of another Charles EDMONDS, similar age, also Bromley (on census, and death 1869 aged 70). I am cautious about drawing conclusions that this Charles 1797 is my man, but the age is right.

Sorry if this is too long, but I don't want to waste your time looking for what I already know. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I would be grateful for any further details on these people - particularly their ancestry, but also marriages of siblings etc would be of interest.

Yes I have tried to contact members of this site who have this family on their trees - no response.

Thanks
Anne
