I think we have well and truly ruled out that 1942 Vivian Jenkins marriage that I was so proud of :-) He was the other fellow whose name was so helpfully misspelled in his birth registration, who settled in Alberta.
Iron Acton was in Chipping Sodbury reg dist so this was very likely Frank's birth
Births Mar 1894 Jenkins Frank Chipping S. 6a 213
I remembered that you can search the Canadian Legion's Last Post magazine on line for records of veterans' deaths back to 1985 ... no Vivian Jenkins is shown there ...
Vivian is not listed among WWII war dead ... in case the other son whose name is unknown was killed in WWII, I searched at the CWGC site for any Jenkins in the Canadian Forces with the keyword Frank or Rose in the record but there was none with those parents ... of course in many cases parents are not listed and that might be especially true if they were long deceased ... but nor was there any Canadian Jenkins casualty whose age at death matched with a 1921 birth ...
On Canada Voters Lists there is a V Jenkins in Manitoba in 1935 and a V Jenkins in Manitoba in 1962 (also a Mrs V Jenkins that year). I can't see any more details than that (and if it were possible the people were still living I would not post them here!)
I believe it was quite common after the war for Canadians to resettle in the United States ............

Dianna, I've already searched high and low for a 1919 passenger list for Rosemary but not found one. I think it's quite possible that brides of Canadian soldiers may have travelled back with their husbands - I've rarely found a civilian passenger list for them.

Hi everyone, Your correct, it is quite frustrating trying to solve this link. On the 1921 Census detail it shows both mother Rosemary and father Frank Jenkins as born in Wales. Later information states Frank being born in Iron Acton, Gloucestershire, England. Although he lived in Wales from an early age.
I wonder what information appeared on the passenger list in 1919 when Rosemary emigrated to Canada. Can anyone help.
Best Regards Dianna

Going round in circles now! Found this:
Canada, Voters Lists, 1935-1980 Name: Vivian Lloyd Jenkins Location: Calgary, Alberta Occupation: Manager Electoral District: Calgary South Year: 1953
At the same address is Mrs Dorothy H Jenkins, whereas the fiancée named in the newspaper notice was Grace May?
Will the real Vivian Jenkins please stand up?
ADDED: I think this is the birth of the one we're trying to eliminate:
Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page Births Jun 1916 Jenkins Vivain L Jones Aberystwyth 11b 90

My heavens, there were two! and yes that one looks like the more likely candidate for the engagement in 1942. That Vivian was in the air force at the time and so even if he had settled in Alberta on arrival he might well have been in Manitoba for training or such and met his bride that way. A little internet searching seems to show that the Commonwealth Air Training Plan operated in Manitoba as well as elsewhere in Canada.

This looks like probably his death
http://albertagenealogy-research.ca/Data/Papers/1995-1999C/CalgaryDeathsPage400.html
JENKINS, Lloyd Vivian 1999 age 83
if he understandably reversed his names. I can't see a birth in the GRO index for either version though.

"I would be surprised if there were two Vivian Jenkins's in Manitoba about the same age"
I don't know about this one ending up in Manitoba, it looks like the contact on arrival was the Land Settlement Office, Calgary, Alberta. However, the reason I'm posting it is because the father's name is Arthur (Mr A Jenkins).
Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935 Name: Vivian Lloyd Jenkins Gender: Male Age: 8 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1917 Birth Country: Wales Date of Arrival: 28 Apr 1925 Vessel: Megantic Port of Arrival: Quebec Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Roll: T-14714
Travelling with Arthur (45, a farmer who was going to farm); Ellen (45); Richard Oswald (15); David Albeyd (18); William Emlyn (14); John Idris (12); Alwyn Denis (10); Una Vida (7) - all surname Jenkins and on the one ticket..

In order to find out what happened to Frank we need to firm up on his background to know if we find the right one. I think the military papers pull a few records together. This looks like it could be him arriving in 1913:
Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935
Name: Frank Jenkins Gender: Male Age: 19 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1894 Date of Arrival: 23 Jun 1913 Vessel: Ascania Port of Arrival: Quebec Port of Departure: Southampton, England Roll: T-4799
He's travelling with Lucy (51) - a widow, presumably his mother. Also Harry (23), Lucy (21), Rees (17), Bertha (14), Lily (11) and George (10).
Lucy snr states she is going to join her son in Winnipeg. The adult males are all miners but intend farming.
If this is the right family (which I suspect it is) then that gives credence to Vivian having been brought up by family - there looks to be plenty of them.

Dianna, what else do you know about Frank - birthplace in England, parents names, etc?
Was wondering if these might be his attestation papers for WW1 - this man had previously served in the Home Guard in Transcona.
Canada, Soldiers of the First World War, 1914-1918 about Frank Jenkins Name: Frank Jenkins Residence: St Why, Manitoba Birth Date: 5 Jan 1895 Birth Location: Iron Seton, England Relative: Mrs Lucy Jenkins Relationship: Mother Regiment Number: 871024

Going back to that 1921 census it appears that Franks occupation is "own farm". I guess he didn't have to be employed on the railroads to be involved in an accident on them?
Also worth adding that although RoseMary arrived in Canada 1919, Frank had originally gone there in 1913.
EDIT: The census also gives Frank's birthplace as England.

alviegal does the 1921 census show Frank's occupation?
there was something said about the railway and I wondered whether the accident might have been in another part of Canada if he worked on trains.
Manitoba death records on line only go up to 70 years ago ... but that would be up to 1943, and that Vivian's engagement was in 1942, so if it is the right Vivian it could be that his father died elsewhere ... possibly even in the United States

Dianna ... I just did a tree search for Vivian Jenkins and noted that two people have a possible match, one with no place of birth and one that says check dates and places ... and beside one of them it says yes I have had contact ... and I thought what? :-S and then I checked and I saw I had a message from you!
Best to reply in the thread, just use the Add you reply box at the bottom of the messages.
Your message wasn't personal so I will just copy it here for the info of others (in case you didn't send other messages too which you may have done)
'Great work, your research confirms most of the info my mother related to me in the past. also I think you are correct that she died in giving birth to the second son.'
I have been looking for anything further on Vivian and Grace May as I think that really must be him ... he was not killed in WWII but that is all I have managed to find!

I would be surprised if there were two Vivian Jenkins's in Manitoba about the same age ... I wonder whether this could be an error (in the original or the machine transcription) ... or if maybe it referred to the relations who reared the children?
it is a pay site for seeing the original

google maps shows St Boniface in central Winnipeg and Transcona on the eastern fringe of Winipeg with Transcona Cemetery just within the perimter highway.
