It was often the case in illgitimancy for the fathers surname to be part of a childs name

He was reg as Nathaniel Langburn Wood as born before his parents married.

Perhaps he fell out with his dad

Peter

Peter Report 27 Nov 2013 23:22

That is the point Shirley - why didn't he put Thomas as his dad and take Langburn/Longburn or other varient.

What do you think?

I am just curious as to whether Thomas is Nathaniel's biological or adoptive father. What do you think?

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 27 Nov 2013 23:13

Would seem Elizabeth had several children by him and having a version of Thomas surname as part of his name would indicate Thomas was his father.

Seems likely as he married as Wood he didnt want to put Thomas as his dad

That is lovely - thank you so much! Now I have the 1861 and 1871 census - I just want to know if Thomas is the father of Nathaniel?

What do you think?

As I say, no father is recorded on Nathaniel's marriage in 1888.

so parents not married

Peter

Peter Report 27 Nov 2013 23:00

I am bascially trying to see if Thomas Langburn is actually the father of Nathaniel Langburn Wood - any suggestions?

I have his marriage in 1888 to Annie BAGE and no father's details are recorded. Why would this be?

Peter

Peter Report 27 Nov 2013 22:57

Thank you, Patchem is it an issue that I ask for requests on here? I don't mean to be rude in asking, and I am always grateful for your and everybody else's help. I am merely curious.

He is fairly obvious on the 1861 census, you need to take out that ancestry trial.

Mother is the 'housekeeper'.
