Argyll is one of the most extensive counties in Scotland, incorporating not just the mainland but many/most of the islands on the west coast too.
If you could provide a bit more info, it may be easier to locate his birth parish.

I am researching on behalf of someone else who is related to this person it his her grandfather.

Just found out that Archibald came over the border and married Emily Lavinia Moorhouse in Sheffield, but she wanted to go back further to find out a bit more.

She knew he came from Argylshire but that is all.

Got this right now Archibald Mclachlan married Ellen Robinson they had 4 children Archibald, Duncan, Hugh and Emma this is on the 1901 census.

Got the Coulson family. Herbert and Emily.

I will see if I can find out whereabouts in Argyleshire Archibald was born, but I have a feeling they don't know.
