Thank you to all who replied to me. I had most of the information. What I was trying learn was about his military service as my father in law when he was alive gave me the idea that they served together and were army palsand I was trying see if I could ffind Johns military record to give me a lead as my fatherinlaws record is amongst those destroyed by enemy action. I now believe it was stronger than that and they lived adjacent to each other in Battersea. before 1914 and from these became life long friends. I briefly met John at my in laws golden wedding. Thank you once again. David Rich

WW1 service records are on Ancestry........but only about 30% survived a bombing raid in WW2

Look for marriage info using freebmd......unless he married in Scotland, in which case, you will need to get credits for Scotlands People website

Although, as a close friend, no doubt your father-in-law knew those details

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

easy site to use....................

To find possible connections on GR....put his details in 'search all trees'

Born Walworth 1895, lived 95 High Street Battersea 1911. Had a younger brother Sidney Albert Duffin, who was killed when a lorry backed into him 13th November 1918. In later life lived in Ayr, Scotland. I would any further information from any relative who can tell more about him particularly his military service WW1. He was a close friend of my father in law Augustus John Winkworth.
