Hi there, I am trying to find a connection between these two people Charles Watson (born c. 1801) and Elizabeth Watson (born c. 1840):
The Langburn people are my relatives and no further research is needed on them thank you. I am just trying to see if Charles and Elizabeth are related:
The York Herald (York, England), Saturday, January 06, 1872 CASTLETON - DEATH OF TWO FRIENDS: Mr. John Langburn and Mr. Charles Watson, after living together in this village for the last fifty years, both died a few days ago-the former, on the last day of December, aged 78, and the latter on the 2nd January, aged 70. They were buried on the same day in one grave.
The North-Eastern Daily Gazette (Middlesbrough, England), Thursday, March 26, 1896 ATTEMPTED SUICIDE AT CASTLETON – A lady of independent means named Miss Elizabeth Watson (56), who has for several years resided with Miss Langburn at a farm close to Castleton Station, yesterday attempted to drown herself. She left the house apparently in her usual good health and spirits, but as she was absent a considerable time a search was made, with the result that she was found lying in about four feet of water in the river Esk. After being got out, and on being questioned by the police after regaining consciousness, Miss Watson stated that “she could not help it; she had an impulse that she had to drown herself at once”.
Miss Langburn was Jane Langburn (1851-1919) and John Langburn (1794-1871) was Jane's father's cousin.
Thanks,
Peter

There doesn't seem to be a sibling relationship between Charles and Thomas ............. plus the fact that Charles was apparently a Retired Lawyer on that 1871 Census and Thomas as an Agricultural Labourer.

Incidentally, I cannot find John and Charles together on any other census, despite that newspaper report that said they had lived together for over 50 years!
In 1841, John age 40, Butcher, is living with his father Nathaniel age 75 in Castleton
In 1861, what appears to be the same John is living with John and Mary Miller, age 65, Retired Farmer
In 1841, what appears to be this Charles Watson is living by himself in Church Street Guisborough, age 35, of Independent Means.
In 1851, a Charles Watson, age 50, Gentleman, is a visitor, staying at a pub in Whitby
and that is about it!!!

Hi Sylvia and thank you so much - yeah, all of your Langburn work is correct and you have noticed the Longburn/Longborn/Langburn/Langburne variations.
The family name changes a LOT, as you can imagine - even John's surname on his probate differs from that of his nephew.
It is late here and I must get to sleep but will look into this tomorrow. Thank you again!

Interestingly, I have in my notes the marriage of George Langburn and Judith WILSON being 19 Aug 1839 in Waddington, Whitby ... this was passed on without a reference. However, I have just looked on familysearch and it seems that this could be their marriage:
George Langburn, "England Marriages, 1538–1973 " Name: George Langburn Birth Date: Birthplace: Age: Spouse's Name: Judith Wilson Spouse's Birth Date: Spouse's Birthplace: Spouse's Age: Event Date: 22 Aug 1846 Event Place: Holy Trinity Church, Hull, York, England Father's Name: Michael Langburn Mother's Name: Spouse's Father's Name: Thomas Wilson Spouse's Mother's Name: Race: Marital Status: Single Previous Wife's Name: Spouse's Race: Spouse's Marital Status: Single Spouse's Previous Husband's Name: Indexing Project (Batch) Number: M01256-7 System Origin: England-EASy GS Film number: 1702265 Reference ID: Page 149; #297
But they had a child Thomas baptised in 1844 in Danby, who tragically died in Danby two weeks before this 'remarriage' after he fell into some burning rubbish and his clothes set alight.
Might that have something to do with the wedding?
Also, Judith's name is WILSON not WATSON, as I had assumed that Eliza Watson may have been a sister of her? That is also from the 1901 census when she is with Jane Langburn (George and Judith's daughter).
Hmmm any ideas?!
