Is it possible to copy my family tree from genes reunited

You can download it in the form of a gedcom to your computer.

See here for instructions
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/help/faqs?key=50

To open/view the downloaded gedcom , you'll either have to have a Family History programme on your own computer/lap top or upload it to another FH site.

To print out a tree

Unless your tree is pretty basic, a Full Tree print out could take many many sheets of paper and an aircraft hanger to piece it together.....assuming that you can get the print full tree function to work. There have been reports that if there are more than 200 people, it doesn't operate.

Is it possible to copy to a disc? I would like to make a copy for my granchildren.
As you say the print version is many pages long, it also does not let you see all the info.
Do any genealogy sites allow a copy to disc version?

Joyce, To find out how many people are in your tree,

Click on, My tree to open it, Then under your name top centre it says "View other trees" click on that to open the tree dashboard, and all tree's listed including yours will show how many relations their are in the relevant tree

Pauline, You can download your Gedcom file, GR send it to your registered email address as an attachment then you can save it however you want but in order to open the Gedcom file in a family tree format you will need a family tree program such as family tree maker or simular, If you google their are several free downloads available

I take it you mean from the census?

I find it best to copy and paste the transcription into a word document then just print it off

Simply right-click the screen when you have the names you want.........select 'print' from menu.

Porkie_Pie Report 18 Nov 2013 00:16

Trouble i find with the right click on screen then print is that it prints "all" content and boarders which can be expensive as it uses far more ink than necessary

I doubt that a bit of extra ink is likely to break the bank

Joyce wanted to know how to do it............................

If she's worried about the ink, she can 'save' the image.........and then select the print area from the saved record

Reggie, My printer uses 6 cartriges at a cost of £86 a time, If i only print the text of a document they will last quite some time abt 10 weeks, If i use the Print screen they don't last more than 5 to 10 days depending on how busy i am

Roy

Plus copy and paste to a word document mean you can add further info to the document before printing so it also saves on paper,

I am from Yorkshire you know ;-)

Thank you Roy. I too find trouble printing, as I get the borders, also.
I have just tried highlighting and Ctr/Shift/ p and it worked! Saves on the black ink mainly
Thanks again for useful tips. Will have a go later trying to get my tree on disc, via the e=mail tip

Pauline, Just remember that once you put the attached Gedcom file on to a disc who ever wants to open it using that disc will still require a family tree program on their PC in order for them to open it in a tree format,

Joyce - Pauline is just using the 'add your reply' box.

Threads aren't closed to anyone as long as they are subscribing members of GR. If that were the case, you wouldn't have any replies at all ;-)
