The Scotlands People centre, at Register House, Princes Street Edinburgh offers "Taster Sessions" to let people find out what the centre offers and how the computer search system works. These sessions are free, and usually start after 12 noon lasting two hours. Staff are there to guide you.

You need to let the centre know in advance if you want to book a taster session. Do so by contacting them through www.scotlandspeople.gov.

After an initial session you can sign up for day visits (15 pounds, 0900 to 1630 Mon-Fri) which give you access to all of the National Records of Scotland held at Register House and the adjacent offices, as well as documents stored at other locations which can be ordered in for you.

If you're in Edinburgh between 19 and 23 November, then why not come along to one of our Family History Surgeries that are being held at Adam House, 3 Chambers Street, Edinburgh. From Tuesday to Friday, the surgery hours will be 2pm to 4:30 pm, and on the Saturday, the hours will be 10am to 4pm. These drop-in surgeries are free and you do not need to book tickets to attend them.

These events will be along the same lines as the library road-shows that we ran at last year’s festival, with staff on hand to carry out a few searches and answer questions.
