I now have a feeling if the person I found in 1959 is indeed the ancestor I am looking for, that he flew to Oz as I cannot find anything in relation to the passenger lists for ships

That was initially my thought as well, that he went to live with family, but iI don't know
what family he had, i've not found out that yet

John,
Electoral rolls are available for Australia, and John does not appear in Fern Gully at 1958 ( he was probaby not registered as a voter)
The previous available ER year is 1954, therefore he would not be listed anyway

However, it is likely that John went out to OZ to live with family.
Do you know of any children he may have been living with in OZ?
We could look at previous and subsequent electoral rolls in FernGully in an attempt to identify his family/children

John

If both parents are a match for your man, it's highly probable that this is the correct death. You need to buy the certificate

When did his wife die? And where? Where was he from?

I am currently trying to discover if a relative, John Thomson, emigrated to Australia after his wife died. I have found a possible match for him dying in Ferntree Gully, Victoria in 1959. The mothers name matches what I have as does the Fathers, is there anyway to clarify this is who I am looking for without having to fork out the price of certificate, incase it is not the right person. I have tried contacting Victoria to see if they can check for me but they have not replied and as I have now discovered, they do not reply to email. I have searched on Ancestry but there is not a record coming up for his departure, but there is a possible one coming up on Findmypast.com, its under J. Thomson, year of birth 1884, John was born in 1885, and the record shows he arrived in Sydney in 1955. I have free access to Ancestry at the local library but it doesn't cover findmypast and as I am not a paying member of find my past I cannot check the record.
