Hi Mandy, Reggie has pointed you in the direction & given you links to 2 free sites for checking out births/marriages/deaths.

The Cumbriabmd site is excellent for Barrow research, fully transcribed to include mothers maiden names for all births, previous surnames for second marriages (where father's name differs from the brides).

If you look for births under surname Porter, mmn Kenyon you'll find there were probably 10 children born to this couple between 1923 & 1944.

If you are local to the area the main library has family history research facilities, with films of all local parish registers, burial indexes, all local census back to 1841and the electoral rolls back to early 1900s.

Good luck.

Added: Another free site you might find of use is the online parish clerks -

http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/

Although Barrow parish registers are not included, ones for the surrounding areas are - and at one time Barrow came under the parish of Dalton, so the chapelry records are included in the Dalton parish registers.

The best advice we can give is that you start with yourself, and work backwards.........verifying all info at every stage

The 1962 marriage cert will tell you how old the couple were..........and the names of each of their fathers.

However, as you know that this one was the youngest, you must know when she was born........so you can find her birth reg'n , and those of her siblings, which will give you the mother's maiden name, and thus the chance to find the marriage of the parents

Mandy, if it is living relatives you are looking for, try the Finding Living Relatives board. Also, try putting some names in the Search all Trees box - under search at the top right of screen, to see if other members have them in their trees. If you find anyone, you can then contact them.
