Find Ancestors

hello, I have traced him in 1851-71 in clackmannanshire , & iam searching for anyone ,who might be looking for a brother to their line, in this case my great g/dad james gordon
age by census abt 1825 , his age varied bty 1851 25yrs, 1861 36yrs, 1871 gone up 20yrs to 55yrs, & died 1871 aged 50 years, he wed robina allan by banns proclamation 25th jul 1846, & wed 12 aug 1846, i have a photo-copy of the banns, but no parents given., I have looked at a william Gordon & janet sangster ,in inverurie, but there isnt a james gordon living with them in 1841, i have been trying to get somewhere with my direct line for over 20 yrs now, ,i have all their children & marriages, & my direct line with always james gordon to grandfather, & then my dad & brother ,also named james, would be lovely to find a sister or brother of my james gordon, & to solve this long time mystery, my tree is on ancestry, plus roots web, one world connect for many years,

If he died in 1871 you should find his Death Cert on Scotlands People which will confirm his parents and his wife as well as a witness who maybe a useful link.


Despite the fact that ages varied slightly in the census, I don't see how someone can age 20 years in a decade, then become 5 years younger before death.

James's death record does not name his parents. Space is left blank.
"Married to Robina Allan".
Informant was his son James Gordon.

Even his son didn't know who James's parents were, so not much hope for us!

EDIT: And you say his parents weren't named on his marriage record either, so it looks as if even James himself didn't know who his parents were.

hello argyllgran , i have the original 1861 census & james gordon is 36yrsold, i think ancestry have read it wrong & is Gordon not Garden ,& born inverury Abdeenshire, I keep looking at the william Gordon ms for gordon family, & i do have a copy of william & janet nee sangster, having a son james born at the porter lodge manor,william was a coachman, & this james Gordon was born 12th feb & bap 28th 1829, so i keep looking at this only james born ,so if i can find him in 1841 , then i might know ,if he is mine, otherwise none the wiser ,after all these years, would be lovely if any of willam Gordon & janet sangsters descendants , out there, might know ,what happened to james ,
