There is a marriage on freebmd that could be one I am looking for, but not sure.
Could anyone look on Ancestry and see if there are any other details on there(father, witnesses ) that might confirm it as the one I want please?
Richard Matthews married Mary Ann Penny in 1881 St Olave.Sth London.
(My Mary Ann had a father named John)
Thank you very much

Jan and Christina
Thank you both very much....good I didn't send for the cert, she is not mine!
My Mary Ann was born in 1856 in Bermondsey.
Her parents were John Penny and Mary Ann(nee Brown)
She is with them in 1881 so marriage was later than that.
The only info I know about her is that both she and her husband died young leaving 2 boys who were taken into Barnardo's and sent to Canada, to become jockeys.
I don't know the name of her husband but would like to find out.

Could be this one. What was her father's occupation?

London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921
Name: Mary Ann Penny
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1856
Age: 25
Spouse Name: Frederick Alfred Thomas
Spouse Age: 24
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 11 Dec 1881
Parish: Lambeth St John the Evangelist
Borough: Lambeth
Father Name: John Penny
Spouse Father Name: George Thomas
Register Type: Parish Register

Edit: He's a Tanner in 1881. This John's occupation may read Tanner, but it's a very strange looking T if it is.

Witnesses are George William Jones?? and Margaret Ross.

Address for both is 44 New Street.

Frederick is a Labourer and his father an Engineer.

Jany Report 26 Oct 2013 18:47

Thank you both for that marriage. That is certainly a possible
Mary Ann's father was a leather tanner by trade
The last address I have for them in 1881 is 29 Camperdown Rd Bermondsey, does the marriage show that?

brummiejan Report 26 Oct 2013 18:50

It must be the right one if father is a tanner.
Address given is 44 New St.
Witnesses George William ?'Inds'? and Margaret ?'Rofs'?

Christina
Thank you..so not them
I would think it is possibly my Mary Ann though , from all the details birth ,father etc.
Just not the one whose boys were in Barnardos
It is just a thing my nan told me...that her mother's sister died and her boys were sent to Canada by Barnardo's and became jockeys.
There was another sister, but I do have details about her and she only had one son.
Rather puzzling really.
I think I will have to look at the brother's marriages too, in case it was a brother and not a sister!
Thank you for helping
