You can search the Scottish census on GR and see transcriptions - it's handy as it can save wasting money buying images for the wrong person at SP.

Margaret, if you live in Scotland the best place to start is either the Scotlandspeople Centre in Edinburgh or the Mitchell Library in Glasgow. Book into the Scotlandspeople Centre for only £15 for a days research which lets you view all Scottish BMDs.

Don't forget www.freecen.org.uk and www.freereg.org.uk
Their coverage of parts of Scotland is very good, but it's not complete by any means yet.

Findmypast and Ancestry have the Scottish census 1841 to 1901 but no images

1841 to 1911 is available on Scotlandspeople with images

Hello Margaret, you really need Scotland's People http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
You need to buy credits but they're quite reasonable.

Sometimes you might hit lucky with old records on FamilySearch https://familysearch.org/

Not on this site

You need Scotlandspeople which is not a sub site and you need to buy credits
£7 gets you 30

Civil registration began in Scotland in 1855. You can not view on SP births within the last 100 years, marriages 75 years or death 50 years

Depending on date have you looked at Familysearch
