Find Ancestors

I am hoping that some-one can traced a marriage.

I have seen a Birth certificate for Harold Hunter ROSE, born 13 December 1925, at 42, St. Paul's Road, Seacombe, Wallasey, Cheshire. Birth registered 1Q 1926 at Birkenhead.
The parents of Harold are given as Robert ROSE & Ethel Constance ROSE ( Nee HUGHES). I do not have any definitive birth details for the parents.
It looks as though Robert was probably born c 1900 in Warwick. Ethel possibly born c 1890 in West Derby, Liverpool.

My question is....... Can any-one find the marriage of Robert & Ethel?

This information was given to me by a friend in the hope that somehow progress caan be made.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Who registered the birth?

Reggie.... I have tried Free BMD, Lancashire & Cheshire BMD's, without any success.

There are two births for the mother's name...............both of an age to have been giving birth in 1925

Good spot...............Cottier is certainly an IOM name................

You would have to buy the marriage cert to confirm if Ethel was married previously, if she was then it should give her maiden name.

The 1961 marriage seems too late for the circumstances, unless they never married prior to the birth of Harold Hunter ROSE, and then married late on in life.
I think the 1890 birth detail for Ethel is highly likely.

The death of Ethel Constance ROSE in 1971 is probably correct.

I suppose it is possible that Ethel married Henry COTTIER in the Isle of Man in 1911, and never disclosed her married name when registering the birth of Harold. Maybe Ethel never told Robert of her previous marriage.

Robert must have known that the mother of his child was married to someone else - otherwise, he could have married her.........unless, of course, he also had a wife elsewhere

The 1961 marriage seems perfectly feasible, if they were waiting for Cottier to die..............

My own great grandparents married in 1914, this was 25 years after their first child was born. The reason was that my G Grandfather was married previously and therefore they waited until his first wife had died.

At the time of a possible 1911 marriage, the First World War was imminent, men returned from war being different people after the atrocities they had seen and many marriages broke down. Divorce was only for the wealthy back then and many couples just lived together as husband and wife even though they weren't married.

My own gut feeling is the marriage in 1961 is correct, same area of death etc. please let us know the outcome if you decide to get the marriage certificate..... it's always great to get feedback. :-D
