Need help,,!, have my grandads marriage cert, and does not match up to what I thought. He was born in 1911 but can not find a birth for him. Was married in 1938 and is 24 years on cert. can anyone help. Please. X shell

Who did he marry and where did the marriage take place?

Who was his father and what was his occupation?

What address does it give?

Who were the witnesses?

If he was 24 in 1938.........that would make him born 1914??

There are only 3 marriages registered for an Edward D Jones in 1938......

His marriage was to ulo Taylor in Wrexham , there was no father on the cert, and the witness were John Taylor and Annie smithurst . On his death cert it says 1911.

The age on his death certificate can be wrong, if the informant did not know the correct year.

Was his wife of a similar age - could he have wanted to appear older on his marriage certificate?

I don't know if he wanted to appear older or younger but my nana, ulo Taylor lied about her age on the marriage cert, she put down she was 25 years , but was born in 1906, married in 1938 , that would of made her 32 yrs. was that a common thing to do, it that era.? Thanks for all your help everyone.

As she was older than him she may well gave lied about her age .he too could have stretched the truth so as to narrow the gap a bit
