Find Ancestors

I'm looking at a tree for a friend that was done by another family member, now deceased. I have James Gosling b. 1823 married to Mary Ann Thorn. Parents of James are given as John Trebel/Treble Gosling and Jenny Mitchell, giving John born 1799 and Jenny born 1794 both in Newton Ferrers. I've found the marriage of John and Jenny as 1819 in Newton Ferrers.

I checked the census for James and Mary Ann, could only find them from 1861 onwards. I did find a James and Mary A. Goslin in 1851 census samples with Jane Goslin shown as mother (if above is correct it should be Jenny). I also found two Gosling grandsons with John and Mary Thorn which could explain why they're not with James and Mary A. I thought maybe Jane was a mistake (not unusual in the census). I did find a Jenny Goslin in 1841 census with son John, and John Mitchell. There was no John Trebel Gosling. I can't seem to find this John in any census, he seems to have disappeared.

Any help please.

Thanks Mike. That means that the census entry I found is probably correct but I can't understand why I can't find John Trebel Gosling, such an unusual name. I've looked for just John in Newton Ferrers but still no joy.

Thanks Catherine. As far as I can tell John and Jenny did have three children, John Treble, Richard and Rebecca, so the above is definitely them.

Thanks Mike. John Treble/Trebel did have a son with the same name.

I'm now wondering if perhaps John T. senior died before the 1841 census and that's why I can't find him.

Thanks Mike. That's probably the son James, who married Mary Ann Thorn. I was hoping I might find him with his parents but no such luck eh.

James and Mary Ann's marriage cert in 1847 should tell you if his father was deceased or not.

he states he is unmarried, but if he left his family he may just have said that.

Any idea what his occupation was?

Thanks Catherine, that's the James married to Mary Ann Thorn.

I just checked the deaths and found a burial for John Gosling, age 37, on 8 Sept 1835 in Newton Ferrers. No other details are given.

I think the death is probably correct. John was born in Newton Ferrers so I don't think the above is the correct one.
