Alisoun is correct - journalier just means "daily", but that's when it's being used as an adjective - as a noun, it means day-labourer, i.e., casual labourer who was hired by the day. However, in Quebec, it applies to all labourers - I don't know abt France. (Female labourers, like some farm workers, get the feminine form of the noun - journalière.)

Journalier does indeed, as a literal translation mean daily, but is also a term used to denote a daily worker or labourer.

Conducteur d'autos translates as car driver (but could be bus, I think).

Spouse of Julie Zulmee Marie Vanhouck. Informant was his father-in-law Louis Vanhouck, age 62. I think he was a labourer (journalier), also lived Merville.
