Sorry Reggie my mistake, it should be the 51 census when he was living with Thomas and Mary Allen. According to the census's John was born in Birmingham, he married Ann Smith in 1857 in Leicester. |

When and where did John Grogan marry? |

This is what I would like to find out, John's marriage cert says his father was Matthew Grogan occ. carpenter but I can't find him. John was living with Thomas Allen and his wife Mary nee Grogan on the 41 census as a visitor. On Mary's marriage cert to Thomas she gives her father's name as John Smith?? |

No unfortunately don't have Hannah's maiden name, yes Reggie that's James on the 41 census, it should read John Grogon though not Gorgon, by the by John Grogon was otherwise known as Broughton, he changed it from one census to another and have not been able to find out why but don't think he's their son but think there's got to be a connection somewhere. John is the one I'm really interested in. |

The tithe records are unlikely to be relevant......if, as you think, he was English |

Thanks Eringobragh1916 & Reggie for replying, I'm grasping at straws a bit here for James Broughton, on the 1841 census he's living in Leicester with his wife Hannah, I've got his birth as abt 1782 and hers as 1789, it says he was born in Leics. and she was born in Ireland so as I haven't been able to find a marriage for him anywhere in England I thought I'd try Ireland and went on to the Roots/Ireland site and the Limerick one came up so just thought maybe someone could check it out for me. Don't know how the Tithe books would help unless they give some personal details but thank you anyway. |

Could one of these have relevance to the man you are researching? |

If anyone has access to the Limerick records, could you please look for the marriage of James Broughton in 1822. |
