It looks like Robert was the son of Jane and Thomas and I guess he felt his borthr John was too old to inherit! |

I've been on family search and a Thomas Catterson married Jane Thompson on 23 November 1801 at Redmarshall. Jane is the daughter of John Thompson who is the brother of Cuthbert, therefore his niece. Also I have found a profile on Mundia (which I know needs to be taken with a pinch of salt) so Robert is a relative of Cuthbert after all. |

Thanks both. I just wondered why he would leave his bits and bobs to someone who wasn't a relative. Must have been a good friend and neighbour. |

I sent for the Will of Cuthbert Thompson (born 1781) who died 1858 at Bishopton, Co Durham. He leaves everything to a Robert Catterson. On the probate, which is granted to his brother John, it says he was a widower without child or parent. On the 1851 census Robert Catterson aged 39 is in the Stockton reg district. Could someone please take a look as I would like to know who he is with. Thank you. |
