Hi Malcolm
I can't imagine the amount of notes you must have when helping people the way you do so no apology needed.
The Oz tree marries up except the words immigrating to Oz instead of Canada so think you are right in saying they messed up. I found it on a site for the Anderson family, quite some renowned people on there.
Cheers

Leslie - yeah sorry abt the muddle. I was working on 2 posts, and didn't leave a big enough gap between them in my notes - well I did, initially, then went and filled it with more military stuff re John.

I've removed the stuff I posted on
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1332100
from this thread.

I should have said I think Bartlettville no longer exists.
Also note his attestation papers, signed a m before his 41st b'day, say he had no previous military service - I'm inclined to think the Oz tree you mentioned is either wrong, muddled, or talking abt another guy.

You'll have much of this but...

Take GoW's URL - searcg will get you to his attestation papers:
http://data2.archives.ca/cef/gpc004/348632a.gif
http://data2.archives.ca/cef/gpc004/348632b.gif
However, if you take the search help link, it will tell you how to order his service record.
There's a per page cost, but he shouldn't have many pages if he stayed out of hospital.
(You have the option of a paper or digital copy - taking the digital option means they will post his record online so others can access it for free.)

The search help link also gives access to the units war diaries, but there's not much for "Forestry" - just division HQ records, with one sample company (# 1).
I had a look at that for Oct 1917, but all it gave was various categories of lumber produced by their mill.
The company had abt 1250 men - all ranks; 20 trucks; and 264 horses.

Abt 45% of the Canadian Forestry Corps served in the UK, the rest in France.
Having them work in Europe rather than Canada freed up enough cargo space to feed 15m people in the UK.

Hi.
Did he go to Australia prior going to Canada??
After much research of John Forrest Gibson b1875 Durham, married 1902 Durham
to Lilian Ianson. They emmigrated to Canada 1903 and had 3 children= Maurice b1905, John roy b1909 and Kenneth b1914 all born Alberta Canada.
John Forrest Gibson died 1942 Vancouver and Lilian 1954 Chilliwack BC.
I have census and some certs confirming all the above.
My request for help is I have seen a tree on line saying he emmigrated to
Australia and he served in the military, can anyone find any records for him going to Australia or serving anywhere????
His parents = John Gibson and Annie Angus Anderson.
Regards Les
