Who are his parents? Smitheringale!

Hi there,

I am researching the Smitheringale family and have stumbled, through a kind of one name study, this chap:

George Smitheringale. He arrived in New South Wales on 27 December 1856, with his wife, Mary. According to the passenger list, she was a native of Kensington, Middlesex, the daughter of William and Harriet Smith. She had a brother Charles Smith, already living in the colony but his residence was not known. George stated he was a 'Sawyer' a native of 'Scionstone, Nottinghamshire', and stated: 'father's name not known - dead - Mother on board - married of and under the name Brown'.

I then looked for Mrs Brown and found:

Jane Brown, aged 48, born 'Isle of Ely, Cambs', the daughter of 'John and Ann Smitheringale, both dead'. Jane's husband was Thomas Brown, aged 44, a carpenter born in Enfield, Essex. His parents were Thomas and Sarah, 'mother at Stepney, Middlessex'. Jane and Thomas' son, also, Thomas was 18, a sawyer, born in Finchley, Middlesex, travelling with his parents.

I am very confident that John and Ann Smitheringale (parents of Jane Brown) are distant relatives of mine, so I am looking for a baptism for Jane, born c. 1802 in Isle of Ely. I have looked on familysearch but to no avail. Can someone else suggest or do a look up on Find my Past?

Cheers,

Peter

you already have a Smitheringale posting don't you? Not a good idea to start another one - research more than likely to be repeated

Peter

Peter Report 23 Sep 2013 01:26

No Anne, it shouldn't be repeated. There posts are quite seperate and cover two very distinct families - they should not cross over and if they do, great, as that is the main purpose of this post.

However, my sincere thanks for your help with my other post, which I will respond to presently.

What about your other 37 threads that contain the name Smitheringale? are they not connected to this family either?

Peter

Peter Report 23 Sep 2013 20:25

No Jax. Not that I am aware of.

Peter

Peter Report 23 Sep 2013 20:30

And thanks Ann, but I am not sure if those last two records connect as BROWN was Jane's married name. Thank you however. Much appreciated.
