It's the military record that has been mistranscribed by Ancestry - he was 20 not 30 when he enlisted.

There are quite a number of images (some duplicates), but it definitly places him in Burma and India - I guess the family went with him. One image gives his parents as Joseph & Hannah Cann, both deceased, but I can't find a date on that one.

I've got to pop out, but if you would like some of the images sending I can do that later.

It is the right military record. He was discharged in Rangoon 15/9/1915, but re-enlisted in Rangoon 7/12/1915 - finally discharged 28/3/1921 (in Rangoon).

It gives marriage to Alice Amelia 9/6/1895, with three children (first names difficult to make out, so I may have them wrong) all born Sheerness - 10/4/1896 Eris George, 18/10/1897 ? Joseph and 27/10/1899 Doris Hannah.

We have a marraige cert for Edrick and Alice showing
8th June 1895 and his age as 23, which would make his year 1871/2
He was at Garrison Point Fort, Sheerness when he got married.
Hope this of some use.
Bless yo
Debbie

Are you sure of Edrick's birth year - there is this record, he enlisted 6/9/1892

Edrick Joseph Cann
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1862
Age at enlistment: 30
Birth Parish: Gillingham
Birth County: Kent
Document Year: 1892
Regimental Number: 26864
Regiment Name: Royal Engineers
Number of images: 22

I'll have a look through the images to see if there are any connections to your family

Cyril Joseph Cann married 1921 to Sybil and was in Army Transport & Supply.
His dad Edrick was a Lance Corporal in the Royal Engineers. Would this take him and the family to Burma?

My family

Frederick WMC Lee 1857 Bombay , India
(appears on 1871 census with relatives in Somerset, then disappears)

William Lee 1861 Bombay, India
(appears on 1881 census then traceable from there)

Just checking to see if they were related.

Hubby's family

Gran Sybil Maude Ragh 1904
But she was born in Burma.
Married Cyril Joseph Cann 1897 - 1972. Born in Sheerness, but in Rangoon by 1911 census.
Cyril's dad was Edrick Joseph Cann 1871
mum was Alice Amelia Whiffen 1870

Cyril was already a widower when he married Sybil and ties with her family were then severed. He was part of the Burma Exodus, but wouldn't talk about the war at all. Any help with mititary records would help. Family moved to Bombay during the exodus and awaited him there. They all later returned to Portsmouth.

I've had a look at overseas BMD but can only find the names born in Greece.

Thanks for your help
Bless you
Debbie
