Yesterday (Thursday), an inquest was held upon the body of William Kenyon, miner, who was so severely injured at Jane Pit that he died. It appeared that on Wednesday afternoon deceased and a comrade were hagging coals, when something blunted the latter's pick anfd caused him to turn aside, during which momentary interval a fall from the roof crushed deceased. His comrade, who escaped as it were by a miracle, hastened to extricate him and carried him a considerable distance, but his injuries were fatal and he died in a few hours. The jury adjouned for a week, in order to allow the presence of the Inspector. Deceased has left a widow and four young helpless children
So only adjourned for a week to allow the inspector to attend. It wouldn't have held up burial back then, (or even now unless there were suspicious circumstances) as an interim death cert would be issued.

Also worth remembering that if he died in a pit accident, there would probably have been a coroners inquest & the burial would not have taken place until the inquest was heard.

Thank you all.
Yes, she must have been expecting Sarah Wilhelmina when William was killed and maybe at that point didn't even known she was expecting. She must have only been a couple of weeks into her pregnancy. Then for the child to die age 10, so sad.
Thank you again.
Angela.

To search for the maiden name of a woman who married after 1837, and whose first name you know, enter the male surname and her first name in the appropriate 'boxes' on freebmd.............assuming that the surname of the male is not too common.
Alternatively, look for birth registrations of children, and purchase birth cert(s)

I wouldn't worry abt the shading. Unless I list all examples of a name, I will get a change in shadings - if I name a rego district, I will usually miss out someone with that name, and so get a change in shading.

Thank you jax.
I now see where I have gone wrong. Genes reunited said event quarter 4 which is right. I tried to double check it with freebmd and it had December. I have just checked it again and it said at the top change of shade means a possible gap in the data, thats where I went wrong . So it is the same person.
Thank you.
Angela.

Yesterday's help with my post was really great - thank you all. It was William Kenyon dob 1830 and Jane Deans dob 1830.
I am looking for help again with William, please.
I have found his death, recorded in Genes Reunited as in December 1860 in Cockermouth, Cumberland. But I have also found a William Kenyon killed 31October 1860 in a coal mining accident in Jane Pit, Workington, leaving a widow and 4 young children. There was an Inquest, recorded in the Carlisle Journal on Friday 2 November 1860, saying the jury had adjourned for a week. Could there perhaps have been a delay in the funeral being held until December, with the death recorded as being in December?
Sorry all that is a bit long winded. What I really would like to find out is could this be the same person - and I need your help, please.
Thank you.
Angela.
