Can anyone help here
I am trying to track my line in England.
The Australian side is confirmed but I need to connect
William Comber c 1779 born in Horley,Surry.
His wife being Jane White c1774, also born in Horley, Surry.
I think they had a son David 1790 and possibly a daughter Elizabeth.
The David I am seeking is the father of James William Comber 1813 born in Reigate Surry and he married Louisa King, my GG Grand parents.
David Comber and Jane are taken of James Williams marriage Cert but have I got the correct William as David’s father.
All dates at this point back from James William are fluid as I cant find
concrete evidence as yet to enter into my tree.
Cheers Kevin Comber

Thanks Jax
I have seen this, not sure if this is my David .
There seem to be a lot of Williams and Janes marrying around that time. I can have my choice, tying them all together is the difficult part.
They generally christened their children within days of birth this one is years,so i have put this one to one side until more evidence appears.
David could have had a sister Elizabeth 1795 Reigate Surrey.

Jax
I have seen this and this is the William and Jane that I hope is the correct couple.
There just isn't enough proof at this stage to say that these are Davids parents.
Not sure how I can prove this connection. Going back this far is always a bit of hit and miss for proof ,they make it look so easy on Who Do You Think You Are.

So its not a big step to move from Horley to Albourne to Brighton over a 70year period and to go from Ag laborers to Stone masons?

jax

jax Report 13 Sep 2013 03:39

His name is James why are you referring to him as James William?

If the David of 1801 christening is William and Jane's son and Elizabeth is his sister, same parish, same church not sure of, then i would have to prove the mothers maiden name as marrying this William.
There just seems to be a lot of choices that don't quite line up as I would like at this stage. I will keep pecking away at it ,it will all fall into place eventually.

I wouldn't have said Southwark was near Reigate or Horley, about 30 mile away....but maybe she came from there?

You are correct about James Comber 1813.
My father did a lot research prior to the internet and used snail mail.
I took all his notes and put them into an order then started to do my own research
and never changed it. I don't know where he got it from it may have come from his father as a hand me down story.

Just found a David CUMBER and Jane Cook marriage for Oct 1800, and no more entries for children to that combination. I might have to start looking at name variations
