Can anyone do a look up on a news article for me? It's from the Cheltenham Chronicle from 1862 on a William Panter of Albert Street. I did have credits left to view, but now it's saying I don't. :-(

Many thanks if anyone can just write up the details of the case, thanks. :-D

Kind Regards,
Rachel

The only one I can find in 1862 is for a case of youths who stole half a loaf from William Panter's bakery in Frederick Place, Old Kent Road.
They were given 7 days imprisonment

From FMP newspaper records -

Tues, 17th June 1862 - Cheltenham Chronicle

Cowardly assault

William Panter was summoned for assaulting Caroline Hampton, an elderly married woman living in Albert Street, Tewkesbury Road. The complainant said that on Tuesday last she saw the defendant striking her boy. On her going up to part them Panter struck her several blows with his fist, giving her a black eye.
Panter had no defence to offer and the Magistrates, remarking that it was a most unprovoked and brutal assault, fined him £1, with 8s 6d costs, in default, one month's hard labour.

There's a William Panter who lived in Gloucestershire and who seemed to keep the magistrates quite busy. There are references on both Ancestry and FindMyPast criminal records.

What else can you tell us about your man?

Thanks to everyone who replied. And Marle, there is more then one court records?! I know that his Dad (also William Panter) committed a crime of handling stolen goods and got 3 months imprisonment. Maybe should research some more on them, if they've committed even more crimes! Naughty boys

Hi Rachel, there are records on both Ancestry and FindMyPast but not the same collections.

Thanks for that Marie. Once I got a few more pennies in the bank, I definitely view them!
