Thomas died in 1895 on 25 August 1895 at 164 Garngadhill aged 75
(1895 Deaths in District of Dennistoun in the County of Lanark, Page 531 No. 1593).
Person: Thomas Smith: General Labourer. Widower of Jane Gordon
Father: William Smith, Farmer (deceased)
Mother: Jenny Smith ne McCrate (deceased) - possibly McCreight.

My cousin obtained this infomation whilst he was recently in Scotland.

Robert's wife was Jane Dickie also born in Ireland (father Joseph Dickie mother Jane Longmore - Jane's death certificate) . David and Thomas were both born in Glasgow. Thomas was born 1879 and David abt 1888 (Parish: Glasgow Townhead; ED: 54; Page: 21; Line: 1; Roll: CSSCT1891_250 )
I havent been able to find their deaths on Scotland's people.

Hi Leonie,

The marriage is available on Scotlandspeople. I'm not 100% sure what it would tell you, if anything like an English marriage cert it would tell you their fathers names ( if known) and their fathers occupations. Often witnesses were family members too.

This would definitely be need for them to trace their parents.....just hope that Thomas,s father has an unusual name.

Hi
I am trying to find out information about Thomas Smith born Ireland abt 1822, who lived in Glasgow. Thomas married Jane Gordon and worked at the St Rollox Chemical Factory as a Chemists Labourer. I don't know when or where they married.
In the 1841 Scottish Census there is a Thomas Smith (2nd) who isa private in 17th Lancers who is a possibility (Parish Govan ED Glasgow Cavalry Barracks Pg 11ine 970).
Thomas had at least 7 children - Margaret born abt 1848, David born abt 1850, William abt 1852, Robert 1855, Frances 1857, Agnes 1859 and Sarah 1865. My grandmother was Robert's granddaughter Rachel.
I have found Thomas in 1861, 1871 and 1891 Censuses. He died in Glasgow in 1895 District Dennistoun Pg 531 Record 1593
I would be very grateful for any additional information especially the fate of Roberts sons David or Thomas and for details of Thomas birth in Ireland.
Thanks
