Philip Report 7 Sep 2013 13:05

Hi all I am having a very successful time researching my family tree on here with some great help in the past I am asking again.

I have now found my mums mum and dad, a Frederick cox and a Margaret cox formerly Clarke now they were married in 1919 aged 17 and 18 assumption rightly or wrongly they got married as a child on the way but I can't find any births for them until 1923. This all happened in Fulham.

I suppose the question is adopted children and if so where can I look if this was the case. As always any help is much appreciated.

Marriages Dec 1919
Clarke Margaret F Cox Fulham 1a 994
Cox Frederick Clarke Fulham 1a 994

Perhaps the birth was registered in a different district?

???

Births Jun 1920 Cox Frederick G Clarke Lambeth 1d 577

Three of my aunts married aged 17 and none of them had a child on the way.

Perhaps Margaret mis-carried or perhaps they just wanted to marry rather than "had to"?

Just after the war, at a time of great uncertainty, one can imagine that young people wanted to settle down to married life, when they were able.

Whether children were adopted or kept, the births would need to be registered in the same way.

Unfortunately, the death rate for babies then was high. IF Frederick and Margaret had a child before 1923 they may have been one of the following.

Death registrations

Charles Cox birth abt 1919 death registered Mar 1919 Fulham
Leonard M D Cox birth abt 1919 death registeredMar 1919 Fulham London
Irene E Cox birth abt 1920 death registered Mar 1920 Fulham London

I can't see birth registrations for any of them.

This might be Leonard who died.... so not Margaret's child

Births Jun 1918
Cox Leonard M D ...Kelly ....Chelsea 1a 473

Irene E COX
There are births in Hammersmith, Reading or Pancras which might be the child who died.
None have mmn CLARKE

Why do you assume there was any untoward reason for the marriage?

What does adoption have to do with this?

Are you saying that you KNOW of other children whose births you can't find?

What are you actually asking us to find?

There is a small tree on Mundia.com which gives his father as William.
This could be them.

Also was Margaret from Fulham

If she was pregnant when she married and was not from the area, she could have gone home to mum for her confinement.

Many first time mums did this at this time.

My great aunt lived in Reigate, but had her first child in Lambeth where she had lived with her mum (baby born in Lying in Hospital by Westminster Bridge). But her 2nd child was born in Reigate.

Just a thought.
