Chris, yes John and Fred were brothers.
Mary I don't know if Mabel, was married, don't think she was married to George Purt.

Well I have been through hundreds of Mable's none correct.

Frederick in WW1 his records state he is a widow next of kin his niece mrs Hutchinson 4 Church row.

1911 4,Church row
Walter Hutchinson
Annie Elizabeth Hutchinson 29 married 9 years.
She was the daughter of Fredericks brother George.

Annie Elizabeth Purt married 1901.

No children or wife mentioned on his records.
he fought in Galipoli got wounded later in 1918 he was a prisoner of war(not easy at his age) or any age come to think of it.

No sign of Emma's death.

A tree on Ancestry.co.uk has Mable having died in Devon ,but as stated above she was married to George Purt so clearly they have the wrong info!

When did Fred and Elizabeth marry . Is it possible she was Elizabeth's daughter ?

He may have described her as adopted rather than a step daughter

As Jax says, there were no legal adoptions until 1927.

My grandfather was "adopted" by an aunt and uncle when both his parents died in the flu epidemic just before the turn of the century.

Could she possibly have been the daughter of a relative I wonder?

Jackie

Jackie Report 4 Sep 2013 00:21

Jackie Report 4 Sep 2013 00:20

I couldn't find her after 1901 census Barbara, so not sure if she was married.
Her dad was on 1911 census, but couldn't find her or wife anywhere

jax

jax Report 4 Sep 2013 00:16

If she is listed as Pirt/Purt on the 1901 there is not much chance of finding out her birth name .

As there was no formal adaptions before 1927 there will not be any record...normally the adopted children listed on the census's are still listed in their birth name
