Thank you all very much indeed.

Gins - you appear too have found what I couldn't. Unfortunately the Pullen surname gets altered by various enumerators and I have found it as Pullen, Pullan, Pillon etc. Why I didn't think and use all these variations when searching for this cert I do not know. Blame it on my age !!

Thanks you all.

If you post one of the censuses, it will help

Birth years, for instance, are vital

Margaret Report 3 Sep 2013 09:10

I have a William Pullen who married an Emily Young. I have failed to find William on a census prior to 1881 to establish his father. His place of birth on the census returns I have found put his place as birth as Yorkshire and Pools Green, Yorkshire (a place I cannot find). However at least from 1881 he lived in London with his family. I had a note scribbled down that he married Sept 1877 regd. Kensington. As my only recourse now is to send for the marriage certificate to establish his father's name I searched for the marriage to obtain the GRO reference. I cannot find a marriage at all !!! It is such a long time since I worked on this tree that I cannot recall how I came by the info on the scribbled note. I have varied my search by the way as incidentally the oldest child appears to have been born some two years (1875) before the 1877 date I have written down. Would anyone with a few minutes to spare takle a look and see if it can be spotted ? Thanks
